Sable
The thinking
Sand in the body
Sable is made from a clay blended with fine grog and a scattering of iron granules. As the pieces fire, those granules bloom through the glaze as dark flecks, so the pattern is grown rather than applied.
The surface is deliberately matte and slightly open. It reads as soft chalk under raking light, holds no fingerprints, and gains a faint sheen where hands and cutlery pass over it most often.
It is the range we recommend most often to restaurants: forgiving in a dish pit, photogenic under warm light, and quick to look lived-in in the best possible way.
